Poetry Out Loud National Poetry Recitation Competition

About this opportunity

Poetry Out Loud is a dynamic national poetry recitation competition that has engaged more than 4.5 million high school students since 2005. Students memorize and perform poems from an approved list, competing at school, regional, and national levels. The 2025-2026 program focuses on poems celebrating American history and culture in recognition of America's 250th anniversary. The competition helps students improve public speaking skills, build confidence, and develop an appreciation for poetry while connecting with a supportive community of fellow poetry enthusiasts.

What you'll do

• Memorize and rehearse poems from the official Poetry Out Loud poem list
• Perform your chosen poem in front of judges and an audience
• Compete at school, regional, and state levels leading to nationals
• Improve public speaking and performance skills
• Engage with a community of students passionate about poetry
