About this opportunity

The Medical Assisting course is a starting point to begin a career in the medical field. Learn the language of doctors, nurses, and health care professionals. This course involves a curriculum of medical terminology, administrative focus, basic clinical skills, and a second semester externship. Students will learn to take blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight; perform vision screening, surgical scrub, CPR, First-Aid, and master medical instruments and office skills. Students in this course will complete an externship during second semester, working in a hospital or clinic setting. A grade of 80% or better is required by completion of first semester to continue the course.\n\nSuccessful students can earn high school credit, high school equivalency credit, dual college credit (up to 9 credits through LWIT, up to 15 through Bellevue College, 13 through Edmonds College, or up to 19 through EvCC), and industry recognized credentials. All science & health pathway students must declare proof of insurance for externships.

What you'll do

• Learn medical terminology and healthcare professional language
• Take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, and weight
• Perform vision screening and surgical scrub procedures
• Complete CPR and First-Aid training
• Master use of medical instruments and office skills
• Complete a second semester externship in a hospital or clinic setting

Requirements

Successful completion of Biology and Health classes required prior to attending this program. Grade of 80% or better required by completion of first semester to continue. Proof of insurance required for externships.
