About this opportunity

Coding for Medicine offers transformative summer enrichment programs that teach coding skills through real-world challenges in biology and medicine. The 2026 program includes live online modules via Zoom and in-person modules at Bellevue College. Students can choose from multiple tracks: Introductory (no coding background), Intermediate, and Advanced coding modules; Genome Exploration and Analysis; AI/ML fundamentals; Pre-Research module for science fair projects; Chemistry with Enzymes lab course; and Microbial Mysteries lab course. A new lab module for middle-schoolers is offered during mid-winter break (Feb 17-20, 2026).

What you'll do

  • Integrate biology with coding, math, chemistry and AI through hands-on exploration
  • Learn Python programming and bioinformatics skills through problem-solving exercises
  • Explore genome sequences, develop algorithms for genome analysis, and learn NCBI BLAST tools
  • Work with AI/ML techniques including regression, classification, clustering using Python and scikit-learn
  • Conduct hands-on laboratory work including cell analysis, DNA extraction, PCR, and bacterial culturing
  • Plan and develop science fair-style research projects with guidance from instructors

Requirements

Registration requires no payment; register to reserve priority in queue. Modules available for different experience levels from no prior coding background to advanced students.
