King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps

About this opportunity

King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a paid summer internship program for teens interested in learning about public lands, environmental justice, and environmental career pathways. The program runs for 6 weeks in summer 2026 (July 7 - August 13), with interns working Monday through Thursday (Thursdays virtual). Participants learn about ecological restoration through hands-on projects, network with Parks staff and environmental professionals, explore environmental justice issues, visit organizations doing environmental work, and complete creative independent projects. Two cohort locations are available: TAF Bethaday Community Learning Space in White Center and Westhill Community Center in Skyway.

What you'll do

• Learn about ecological restoration and participate in hands-on projects in King County Parks
• Network with Parks staff, community leaders, and environmental professionals
• Explore solutions to environmental and human health problems through field trips and workshops
• Engage in discussions about the intersections of race and the environment
• Work on a creative independent project that supports your summer learning
• Build community with your cohort and program partners
• Complete restoration projects such as removing noxious weeds, spreading wood chips, and planting

Requirements

Must be a King County high school student entering grades 10-12, at least 15 years old by program start, and able to commit to attending the entire 6-week summer program. Prior experience with parks or environmental activities is not required. Individuals from populations historically underrepresented in environmental leadership are encouraged to apply.
