This Pharmacy Technician Program is ideal for students passionate about healthcare and working in fast-paced environments. Students develop essential skills including workplace professionalism, pharmacy compliance laws, patient confidentiality, drug classification, prescription processing, and pharmacy calculations. First-year students earn both high school and college credits while completing a 100-hour externship at a pharmacy in the spring. Second-year students can participate in a paid apprenticeship for real-world experience while continuing education. Students also prepare for the PTCB national board exam and can apply for a Washington State Pharmacy Technician license upon turning 18. The program requires strong math and reading skills for pharmacy calculations and ability to understand technical medical texts. Students should be detail-oriented, communicate well, enjoy working with people, and have strong critical thinking skills.

What you'll do

• Develop workplace professionalism and pharmacy compliance knowledge
• Learn patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
• Study drug classification and medication interactions
• Interpret and process prescriptions
• Perform pharmacy calculations for dilutions, dosages, and conversions
• Complete 100-hour pharmacy externship in first year
• Participate in paid apprenticeship in second year (optional)

Requirements

Prerequisites: successfully passing Health & Algebra 1. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from externship and apprenticeship sites, with public transportation as an option.
