About this opportunity

A boot camp style program held at the Port of Everett and led by the Maritime Institute that allows students to become fully credentialed and professionally trained mariners. Students who successfully complete the program will be qualified to join any US Merchant Vessel at the entry level and will be internationally certified. The curriculum covers vessel operations (above and below deck), engine room familiarization, personal survival techniques, watchkeeper/navigation training, vessel security, maritime electrical systems, outboard engine maintenance, diesel/gas and electrical engine maintenance, maritime plumbing, collaborative teamwork, and basic firefighting skills. Students earn both high school credits and industry-recognized credentials.

What you'll do

  • Learn vessel operations including above and below deck systems
  • Receive engine room familiarization and maintenance training
  • Complete personal survival techniques and watchkeeper/navigation training
  • Study vessel security and maritime electrical systems
  • Learn outboard engine and diesel/gas engine maintenance
  • Practice basic firefighting skills for maritime safety
  • Develop collaborative teamwork skills for prolonged vessel assignments

Requirements

Must be able to meet Coast Guard regulations as the program follows Coast Guard curriculum. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the Port of Everett daily; no bus transportation provided.
