About this opportunity

The Summer Teen Leadership Program is a volunteer opportunity for high school students ages 14-18 from the Seattle area. Participants engage in approximately 25 hours of service, including volunteer sessions at Food Lifeline's sort and repack facilities and hands-on harvesting at Solid Ground's Giving Garden at Marra Farms. The program includes educational workshops on community engagement, advocacy, food partnerships, environmentalism, resume building, and event planning. Teens learn about food justice, the food distribution system, and root causes of hunger while contributing to their community by helping distribute fresh vegetables and food to local food banks and pantries.

What you'll do

  • Harvest fresh vegetables at Marra Farms to distribute to local food banks and pantries
  • Participate in sort and repack sessions at Food Lifeline facilities
  • Attend workshops on community engagement and advocacy
  • Learn about food justice and food security issues
  • Develop leadership skills and gain career experience through workshops on resume building and event planning
  • Build connections with other teens interested in social justice work

Requirements

Ages 14-18 from high schools in the Seattle area. Students gained valuable experience in food justice and advocacy during the summer program.
