About this opportunity

Join us in restoring the health of North Shorewood Park. North Shorewood Park, a neighborhood park, has a lot to offer in a small area: playground, picnic areas, basketball court, off-leash dog area, and a trail that meanders through a second-growth forest. IMPORTANT: Any minors (people under the age of 18) attending the event without their parent or legal guardian must bring a signed Youth Waiver to the event and give to staff before event in order to participate. Download the Youth Waiver form here: https://kingcounty.gov/parksyouthwaiverform Learn more about this park and others at www.kingcounty.gov/parks. Purpose: Connect to and make a difference in the health of your local park while learning about the environment. Your role: Year-round projects often include removal of monoculture forming and introduced plant species that can reduce plant diversity, spreading woodchip mulch, weeding previously planted sites, and other park improvement projects (e.g., litter removal). Seasonally (October through February), tree and shrub planting may also occur. What to expect: Fun, engaging and rewarding Pro tips: Our events run rain or shine. Please plan to arrive on time for the start of the event. Upon arrival, we ask that everyone sign-in and then gather for an introduction. Before we dig into activities, we'll address safety, King County Parks, our current location, the importance of our shared work, and plan for the day. In the event of hazardous weather, your King County Project Lead will send an email the morning of the project. We recommend you check your email before you leave home. Additionally, if you're a lead for a group, please be sure to spread the information amongst your group. Please come prepared with: • Closed-toe shoes such as sturdy sneakers, rain boots, or hiking boots. Do not wear sandals, heels, or flats. • Layered clothing that can get dirty. • Long sleeved tops and full-length, thick bottoms. Do not wear capris or shorts as thorny, prickly vegetation is common. • Full water bottle and snacks/food. • Weather-specific items such as sunscreen and hat for sunny days and rain gear for wet days. • Work or garden gloves if you don't want to use King County-provided gloves. REMINDER: Any minors (people under the age of 18) attending the event without their parent or legal guardian must bring a signed Youth Waiver to the event and give to staff before event in order to participate.
